The 3-C?s of all healthy relationships are Communication, Commitment and Compromise.? If any one of those is missing, the relationship can not and will not be healthy or have a good foundation.
Communication seems to be the number one issue that the couples I meet with need help with the most.? Most often, mis-communication, no-communication or one-sided communication is what leads to arguments.
There are some people who have yet to grasp that arguing is not the most effective way to resolve issues and disagreements.? Sure, there is something to be said for letting the emotions and energy out and having a lively discussion.? It may allow you to feel ?free? of what ails you to get it off your chest.? Too often, it offers only a temporary reprieve from the main issue that has yet to be addressed.
Remember conflict is healthy; you both can learn, grown and experience new direction.? Nothing I have learned, read or have been taught allows me to believe that arguing is a healthy way to handle conflict.
One reason that arguing does not work is that no one is listening and no one feels heard or understood. You both end up feel more and more frustrated. Often arguments end, not because anything has been resolved, but because one or both of you have become so exhausted that you give up or walk away.? Again, the main issue has not been addressed.
